The process of charcoal making
The process of making charcoal is referred to as the carbonation process. The carbonation process starts by filling a tort with large quantities of wood. The aim of burning the wood is to make sure that the tort is filled to completion least you risk the waste of fuel that is used to heat the tort and maintain the pressure at a high. Inside the tort, the high temperature drives off all the moisture as well as the volatile gasses. The next step after filling the tort with wood is setting the tort of fire. The fire helps to leave only carbon in the tort.
Once the wood is completely burnt and the only thing left in the tort is carbon, you have to remove the tort from the fire and allow it to cool down. While allowing the tort to cool, make sure that you do not open the tort until the charcoal has completely cooled down. Opening the tort before it is completely cooled down would result in the fire reigniting. This would be influenced by the re-introduction of oxygen, which is excellent for combustion.
Once the charcoal is completely cold, you can remove the charcoal from the tort and place it inside a bucket. A five-gallon bucket would be the best option. The next step would be to chop up the large charcoal pieces into smaller ones. The recommended chunk size is about one and a half inches. A flat-ended shovel would do the chopping correctly.
Once you have the right sizes, fill them into an eight-inch or six-inch ball of mill jar. However, do not fill the bar to completion. A third of the jar must get filled with hardened lead which is milling media before adding the charcoal into the jar. The charcoal should take ten to fifteen minutes in the jar. This is called the milling process. This step aims to reduce chunky charcoal into a finer air float product. Once that is done, you can store it in zip locks.
